There is no known origin of this classic. One of the most prevalent stories of this mysterious cocktail is that it was concocted by a Mexican restauranter Carlos for a Zigfield showgirl Marjorie King. She was allergic to all kinds of alcohol except Tequila, but she didn't like to drink it straight up. Hence Carlos combined the elements of a traditional Tequila, orange and lemon into a refreshing Margarita as we know it today.
